Eco-UNESCO Project
The senior students in Marino School created and designed a project for the ECO-UNESCO Environmental National Awards. The rivers of County Wicklow are facing problems in the 21st Century. For our entry we focused on the river Dargle, north Wicklow, river Vartry in mid-east Wicklow and the Avoca River in the south of the county. The water courses throughout the county are suffering from pollution and urban encroachment on their natural environments and habitats.
Our Project was a result of great team effort. The students built a 3D model of the Wicklow Mountains with the three main rivers of Wicklow. Each student was responsible for key parts of the project, as follows:
- carrying out research, compiling and sharing information with my team and throughout the school community.
- finding and reading information relevant to our research, using information technology and online learning apps and sharing information with team members and other students in our school.
- constructing a 3D model of the project by using recyclable materials, paper, paints and carboard containers.
- presenting the findings of the research and acting as the PRO.
- reading, collecting and presenting information.
Students would like to generate awareness and to get the message out there that we must help to save our rivers. Well done to all students. The entry from Marino School was short-listed as one of the finalists and the project was highly commended. Well done to all students involved in the project and for producing a very nice project.
