Presentation of donation to the D.S.P.C.A.
On Wednesday 8th March, the senior students of Marino School presented a donation to Mr. Brendan O’Connor (education officer) with the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, DSPCA. The monies were raised through the Christmas Fair initiative and the presentation marked one of many collaborative events, which are ongoing between Marino School and the DSPCA.
Marino School students are thoroughly enjoying the partnership with the DSPCA, which is supporting and consolidating their learning in the Junior Cycle Level Two Short-course, Caring for Animals. This short course builds on and promotes the development of a range of personal, social and practical skills in the context of learning about an animal of special interest to the student. The students participate in regular visits to the DSPCA Animal Sanctuary in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin and they learn about all aspects of caring for a range of animals.
The link has proven to be mutually beneficial to both Marino School and the DSPCA, as the students are supporting the valuable work of this charitable organisation, while learning empathy, nurturing and other key skills which will promote their independence and assist them to become active and responsible citizens in the future. Mr. Brendan O’ Connor gave a short presentation on the current services being offered by the DSPCA, and he thanked the students for their fundraising endeavours and assistance.
The remainder of the funds raised will be used to purchase sport equipments and sensory resources for use in the classroom. Thank you to all who supported our fund-raising initiative!
